Investment Securities Banking and Economic Development Courses

The Centre for Investment Securities and Economic Development, with its unique, multi-tiered evaluation process, provides companies with the assurance that their programs delivered by us meet international best practices/standards and are designed to enhance practical skills.

Below these are our current list of courses and are offered to our international clients. However this by no means limits the courses we offer, as we often have clients who contact us with a specific need, and we are happy to customize courses to a specific requirement or to design a new one.

Wealth and Retail:



This category comprises of two courses aimed at the wealth and retail sector. Fund Management Overview, run over three days, provides a comprehensive insight into how fund management works, the different types of funds, the diversity of those funds and how Fund Managers operate. It is an essential foundation learning for anyone in the sector wishing to build a career. The second course, Macro Economics Global Finance, which runs over four days, provides an excellent grounding by examining the risks of the various financial instruments and provides tools to manage those risks. These are generalist courses aimed at providing a broad-based knowledge of the subjects and are aimed at practitioners working within the business or those wanting to enter the sector at a vocational level.

Compliance and Risk:


A well designed and defined suite of courses concentrating on compliance and risk within the securities and investment sector. This suite comprises of seven courses that vary in length between three and five days and provides learning across a range of subjects from risk and controls to financial statement analysis. These courses are highly interactive, practical and are delivered by professionals with extensive practical experience. They are aimed at generalists wanting to gain broad-based knowledge of compliance and risk within the investment and securities sector.

Managing operations within the securities and investment sector is as important as knowledge of the different funds. Management and corporate governance, particularly, was placed in the spotlight in some of the high profile banking casualties of the last few years.

The operational courses range from business ethics and corporate governance to managing highly charged investment managers, which has its own unique challenges. It also includes managing project finance and advanced financial modelling using Excel in order to embed skills in this area. Aimed at generalists in the sector wanting to expand their knowledge, the courses are interactive, practical and are delivered by professionals with extensive work experience. They are delivered over three days with the Excel course being delivered over five days due to the practical nature of the course.

Capital Markets and Corporate Finance:


This is a broad suite of specialised courses that covers a wide range of subject areas ranging from company valuations to hedge funds, from mergers and acquisitions to real estate investment and management. Aimed at generalists within the sector wanting to expand their knowledge or specialists wanting to gain knowledge of a different subject area, they provide a combination of specialised learning within each of the subject areas with practical application through the use of case studies. They examine the subjects in detail thus enabling candidates to immediately take the skills learned into the workplace.

The course durations range from three to six days, are interactive, practical and relevant to anyone working within the sector.

Islamic Finance:


According to the Global Islamic Finance Report 2014, $1.813 trillion of assets are being managed according to Islamic investment principles. Such principles form part of Shari’ah, which is often understood to be ‘Islamic Law’, but it is actually broader than this in that it also encompasses the general body of spiritual and moral obligations and duties in Islam. In the Persian Gulf region and Asia, Standard & Poor’s estimates that 20 per cent of banking customers would now spontaneously choose an Islamic financial product over a conventional one with a similar risk-return profile.

This broad suite of one-day courses relating to Islamic Finance is essential learning for generalists within the sector wanting to broaden their knowledge or specialise in all aspects of Islamic Finance.
